Director of the Institute for Environmental Economics and World Trade at Leibniz University of Hannover (since 2006), Member of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU) (2016-2019)  and Senior Fellow at the Center for Development Research (ZEF), Bonn (since 2010); studies and PhD (1994) in agricultural economics at University of Kiel, habilitation (2004) and deputy professorship at University of Bonn; employment at ZEF (1998-2006) and at international organizations (OECD, Paris; Asian Development Bank, Manila) (1995-1997), Memberships: Board of Trustees of the German Development Institute (DIE, Bonn), Member of the Advisory Council of the United Nations University Institute for Natural Resources in Africa (UNU-INRA), Accra, Ghana (2017-2020); German Economic Association/Development Committee and European Development Research Network (EUDN); founding member of the Sozietät der Wissenschaften (Club of Sciences) zu Hannover. Research foci: environmental and development research, with focus on South-East Asia and Africa; certification and trade; migration, agricultural policy.
